My Grandma's Cookies.

I don't know if you've seen the show "Lost" or know what it's about (spoiler alert: it's about awesomeness is what's it's about), but if you haven't, here's a very quick summary: There's a plane crash, people land on an island, crazy stuff goes on that makes you jump up from the couch, motion to the tv-back to who you're watching it-back to the tv-and then you make a big "WHAT THE HELL" face.  Needless to say, JJ Abrams (creator) and Michael Giacchino (composer) create a hell of a picturesque mind screw in paradise.  The back stories and plot twists always and always leave you wanting more.  More than the time Grandma gave you delicious cookies and when you reached for more she'd mumble something about spoiling an appetite, I dunno, I was always too busy stealing from Grandma.  What I'm getting at is it's THAT kind of hunger for answers to the unknown--or the unknown itself.

There are millions and millions of people who tune in to watch the show.  It's what the executives call a "phenomenon."  What I love about the show is that it's just clouded and magic-eyed and three kinds of blurry.  There's always mystery.  Of course, that's the appeal.  The search and wonderment of the unknown...

My contention is that life, like Lost, needs its mysteries.  Life needs to be searched, prodded, and explored.  How exciting is it to start something new or delve into the unknown?  Better than skydiving.  When there's that predictability and stability it kills.  It can be like a bad movie where you shake your head because you already know what's going to happen.  Tennessee Williams once said "Security is a kind of death."

I'm saying that there are so many things out there in this world that will make you put your hands on top of your head in wonder.  There are so many things that I wish to go see.  Things I want to experience.  Don't take your short time on earth for granted.

I leave this rant with a quote by the infamous George Costanza:

"The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends.  I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time.  What do you get at the end of it? A death.  What's that, a bonus!?!? I think the life cycle is all backwards.  You should die first, get it out of the way.  Then you go live in an old age home.  You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day.  You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement.  You drink alcohol, you party, and you get ready for high school.  You go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities.  You become a little baby, you go back, spend your last 9 months floating with luxuries like central heating, spa, room service on tap, then you finish off as an orgasm! Amen."

Peace and also Love,
Ryan
